Directions

DOUGH

(1) First things first: grab your biggest mixing bowl and whisk together 2 1/4 cups of flour, yeast, sugar, and a pinch of salt—because we’re about to get this dough party started!

(2) Now, warm up your buttermilk to the sweet spot (check your yeast package, but it’s usually about 115°F to 125°F). The buttermilk should be warm and cozy, not too hot. Stir it into the flour mixture with a big rubber spatula or wooden spoon, along with melted butter and an egg. Get ready to mix it up until the dough starts to come together and pulls away from the sides of the bowl.

(3) Here comes the fun part: turn that dough out onto a floured surface (a clean countertop works wonders), and if the dough feels a little too sticky, sprinkle in a bit more flour—just a tablespoon at a time.

(4) Now, it’s time to knead! Get your hands in there and knead for about 4 minutes until it’s smooth and forms a nice dough ball. (Flour your hands as needed to avoid a sticky situation!) Once you’ve got that dough looking fabulous, pop it into a lightly greased bowl and cover it with a towel for a quick 10-minute rest.

FILLING

While that dough is chilling, let’s get the cinnamon-sugar goodness going! In a small bowl, mix together some granulated sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon—this is the stuff that dreams are made of.

CREATE

(1) Once your dough’s ready to roll (pun intended), take it out, and on a lightly floured surface or silicone mat, roll it into a big, beautiful rectangle about 14 by 9 inches. Spread 1/4 cup of super-soft butter all over that dough, and then sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture all over—leaving a little border around the edges.

(2) Now, get your rolling skills on: start at one short edge and carefully roll the dough into a log. Pinch the seam to seal it up, then, using unflavored dental floss or a super-sharp knife, cut that roll into 8-10 equal slices, about 1 inch thick.

(3) Next up: Grease a 9-inch springform pan or a pie dish and gently place your rolls inside, leaving a little space between each one. Now, give them time to rise! Let them sit for 60-90 minutes in a warm, cozy spot—like inside an oven that’s turned off. This is their time to get nice and fluffy!

AFTER THE ROLLS HAVE HAD THEIR BEAUTY REST

(1) Preheat your oven to 350°F. Pop the rolls in and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the tops start to get golden and a little brown around the edges.

(2) When they come out of the oven, you’ll want to let them cool for just a minute (trust me, it’ll be hard, but worth it!) While they’re cooling, let’s make the glaze!

GLAZE

Whisk together all the glaze ingredients until it’s perfectly smooth. Then, drizzle it generously over your cinnamon rolls, covering every sweet swirl.

ENJOY

Now, the moment you’ve been waiting for: dive in and enjoy the fluffiest, most cinnamony rolls ever. 👩‍🍳✨

Happy baking! 🍽️💛
